The Art of Sod

So.

Last Saturday we went up to Bear Lake for a nice little day trip.
There's something about being at the lake that makes me want to jump up and down and yell, "It's Summertime! Summer is here!!!"

Here's the thing, ever since my very first Summer of being alive I have spent many weekends during the Summer at various lakes in Utah and sometimes Nevada. They just bring out the inner Summer in me. I always say that Fall is my favorite season (because it is), but when June comes around I wonder for a while if my favorite season might actually be Summer. You know what I mean? It's just filled with all sorts of goodness.

You know what I think? I think my favorite season is May-Jan 16th. And I only like January up to the 16th because that's my birthday. Other than that I could take or leave Jan-April. Except mostly I'd like to leave them.

But, I digress.

So, Bear Lake. Have I ever mentioned to you that I love Garden City? It's just so lovely. It's everything that a place should be in the Summer. It has so much greenery, big open fields, a lake, lots of ice cream....
Oh man. That Garden City. And, of course, when we go to Bear Lake we usually pass through Logan, which makes my heart ever so happy.

Saturday was more of a work day at Bear Lake than a play day, but I didn't really mind. The plan was to lay sod so that my in law's property could be pretty and so much nicer for lounging and relaxing and that sort of thing. Well, actually, the plan was for the men to lay sod and for me to read Harry Potter and my mother in law to read her book, and then to roast some hot dogs on the fire. Roasting hot dogs is another one of those things that brings my Summer-self into all sorts of ridiculous happiness. And, of course, a trip to Le Beau's for shakes was in order. It's a tradition that just cannot be skipped!

But, what really happened is that we got there and it turns out that laying sod wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, so both Allyson (my mother in law) and I helped the men lay sod. Thus, we got done so much faster than anticipated! So, we figured we'd get out at a good time, but of course the motor home was broken (when are they not broken, I ask you?) and so Jayson and his dad spent many hours fixing that, which actually turned out just fine because it meant that I got to read Harry Potter after all, and we roasted our hot dogs and had our shakes. And Ruby got to have some fun running around the property, getting into anything smelly that she could find.

So much sod.

Can you even believe those colors? I didn't even edit this. Not one little bit.

Let's ignore that fact that this picture is pretty unflattering and focus on the fact that I am laying sod.

The first to lie on the grass.

Miss Ruby's first swim! I mean, at least the first one I've taken her on. She didn't love it, but she didn't seem to hate it, so that's a start.

So pretty! And my cute pup.

Sigh.

Whenever I smell sunscreen all I can think of is summer. I miss those Garden City shakes!
